a little surrealism ahead

sound on, if you like

hi, I'm

babbled & brooke

My first webpage, built for Everett CC's web design and coding class. I've put a few webpages together outside of class too. I'm here to learn the craft all the way down.

Why Babbled Brooke

My mind is always thinking. The non-stop BABBLE used to madden me. I've learned to embrace it and go with the flow. Late nights. A lot of music. Always searching for inspiration.

Quarters at EvCC

3.5

Three full quarters, and I'm deep into my fourth.

What I'm pursuing

A degree in

Graphic Design.

Art therapy too, one day.

Why I chose it

Because I'm always making. Design gives me the tools to hold the BABBLE and put it somewhere other people can see.

Favorite color

A teal green with gray-blue.

#267B72

One of many I love.

The artist who inspires me

My favorite right now is Jenny Saville. Her work is raw and emotionally powerful. I love that she embraces imperfection, both in her own work and in the people she studies.

Photographs from Salterton Arts Review · The Anatomy of Painting, National Portrait Gallery, London.

A surreal collage: a figure in a plum suit with a television for a head, tangled line-drawn faces on the screen, standing on dark earth. Small cloud-legged figures on either side. An inverted staircase spills from a lantern-like shape above, into a pastel sky.

What I'm making

I am always creating. Here is one.

Abstract, surreal, emotional, colorful, layered. TV-head, a crowd of small selves at the edges, a staircase that goes somewhere I can't see yet. Saville's permission to be imperfect lives in mine.

What's playing

My ear comes from my dad. He played everything, early. Mannheim Steamroller, synth, Yanni, hymns, classical, Christian rock, classic oldies, Neil Diamond. Ray Lynch came on my 13th birthday. Still my favorite listen.
